About

I’m Amaya, the Sun From Leo. I am a toddler/Jeep mom, nontraditional student, student-parent, doula and founder. I’m a Renaissance Womban who sets the container to follow her pleasure and passions (Leo Sun, Sag Moon, Cap Rising). I am a senior philosophy major at the University of Maryland, College Park but I began as a Psychology major at Bowie State University. Five years later, I became a physics major at UMD, then a Double Major in Physics and Kinesiology after my first semester, and my research interests settled me in Philosophy. I am pursuing a JD and a Philosophy PhD dual degree program to further explore consciousness, reality, identity, and sovereignty. In and out of my programs, I am researching and honoring: how inner worlds shape outer worlds, the African diaspora, and the Polynesian diaspora (most particularly, the Kānaka Maoli). I am the founder of Pod & Pride for families to cultivate their habits and health via fitness, skill-building, and wellness— together. I am building a life, career, and business that bridges the humanities and sciences. My journey reflects my tenacity and love for asking questions— especially about how our inner worlds create the world and realities we live in.

Note: I have special interests in indigenous studies/wisdom, metaphysics, black history, orcas, panthera, quantum physics, films, birth work, wombanhood, and literature (All of which I love to talk about). My special interests are often connected to my research, work, and personal philosophies.

With love, Me ke Aloha, Un abrazo,

Amaya Johnson

“My granddaddy always told me about the importance of having a solid foundation and not playing games with people. My nana instilled the importance of education and reading in me (and supporting the libraries!). I honor their foundation and legacy with the creation of Sun From Leo because I wouldn’t be Amaya without William Royster Johnson or Christine Johnson.”
